Axford
Axford is a very small village in the Kennet valley between Hungerford and Marlborough. The village is mainly spread out along the main road and consists of a few probably early 20th century houses which overlook the road, and a few earlier cottages. The river Kennet and a small tributary the Ax meander through low lying water meadows just to the south of the village.
The small village church is the Church of St. Michael, built as a chapel of ease in 1856 and served from Ramsbury. It is a plain rectangular building of banded brick and flint with a slate roof. It consists of a Nave and Chancel and a small vestry at the north-east corner and a covered south-west entrance porch. Unusually it has no bell.
Axford is about 3 miles east of Marlborough between Marlborough and Ramsbury.
