Beenham

Beenham is a large village of mainly 20th century housing, much of which is post World War II. It cannot really be described as an attractive village although it would be a pleasant place to live for a daily commute to either Reading or Newbury, being situated about midway between the two on the south side of the Downs.

Location map:

St. Mary's Church is situated down a lane to the south of the village. The present building dates from 1859, although the tower actually dates from around 1800 and is the only surviving part of an earlier church destroyed by fire in the late 18th century. That church replaced a medieval building that too was destroyed by fire.

Nearby is The Wolf Conservation Trust which was established in 1995 to help wolves in the wild throughout the world, and especially Europe.

Beenham is approximately midway between Reading and Newbury about 6 miles east of Thatcham.
